I have had the privileged of reading to my baby girl nearly every night from the Jesus Story Book Bible.  It has been a joy reading to my little girl. I am fully aware that she does not comprehend what is being taught in this precious book. I am hopeful one day she will start to grasp and understand the truth presented in the pages of this story book.

What Makes This One Different from Others

It all points back to Jesus. Isn’t that the point of the Bible? To magnify Christ? Well, this book takes the commonly well known Children’s stories and points them back to Jesus. Even from the beginning, it represents Jesus as the one coming to redeem us. God will not forsake us. He has a plan. Even after Adam and Even ate the fruit, God had a master plan redeem us.

Before they left the garden, God whispered a promise to Adam and Eve. “It will not always be so! I will come to rescue you! And when I do, I’m going to do battle against the snake…I’m coming back for you!”–Page 36

What makes this different than others is most Children Bibles are more about rules. Do not lie. You better not steal. If you kill someone, you will be like Cain and don’t you want God to like you? Yes, I may be exaggerating a bit here, but this is what it seems like to me.  Most Children Bibles have little to do with Christ and more to do with themselves or morals.

Not this one, it has everything to do with Christ!

Is This just for Children

While the intent behind the book was to engage children and the author did a fabulous job doing that, I would also recommend this to new believers. While reading this, I often found myself thinking, “Oh, I didn’t know that” or, “I forgot about that.” It is very refreshing.
Recently, someone posted on The Gospel Coalition that he recommends the Jesus Storybook Bible to new believers, I now understand why. I honestly think new followers of Christ could benefit from reading this as it will help them capture the whole story of redemption. I would also add those who want to further their understand of how every story in the Bible whispers Jesus name. It truly is all about Jesus.

Should I Pick this up

Yes! I highly recommend it. This is the Bible I want my children to first learn from. This will be perfect for parents, aunts and uncles, grand parents, etc to read to your little one. I can’t recommend it enough.

If you know of anyone who is having a child, this is the one to get!  It is so good. I would not recommend another Children’s Bible over this one.
